chairs, tables and lamps designed by Kooij

An interior designer who designs colorful, practical and functional tables, seating and other objects is Dirk van der Kooij.

He founded in 2009 his Netherlands-based studio in the basement of the Design Academy with the seemingly simple question “how could plastic be an honest and durable material” guiding question. Of each table, chair, object, and light that Dirk van der Kooij’s creates from recycled plastic and other discarded materials, he asks: Is this a permanent, worthy application of the resources used?

Using 3D printing technology in his works, we can see a great variation of lamp models. The Frensel for example was slowly built layer by layer with warm ribbons of recycled plastic the lamp lens can take on a warm or subtle gray tint.

Chairs are also a speciality of the artist. Collorfully, minimalistic, durable, logical, and beautiful he creates with minimalist and even futuristic forms a variety of chairs, each with its differentuses in everyday life, without losing style, modernity and practicality

At last but not least the third life to recycled plastic prototypes and colour tests from the Kooij Studio in form of a Table. The Meltingpot Table fits perfectly to the daily with a versatile design is suitable as a bistro setting or family dining table.
